After the contest, she moved to Paris to further her modelling career. She is not only a successful model, but also a fashion photographer and ex-creative director of “Nylon” magazine.

Daphne Selfe, 85

Daphne Selfe is the world’s oldest supermodel. Her career began back in the 1950s, when she won a local beauty contest and signed her first contract on clothes advertising. She wasn’t exactly the “model” type with her unconventional face and height of 66 inches, but had a great figure and so she had a job. In 1998 Daphne was invited to take part in a fashion show of London fashion week at the age of 68. That’s when her career really started off.

Carmen Dell’Orefice, 82

Carmen Dell’Orefice is known as the longest working model in the world. She started attending castings at the age of 13, but everybody claimed her face wasn’t photogenic and interesting enough. That was until her photo was noticed by one of the American “Vogue” editors, and Carmen’s life changed completely. Her first photo-shoot was posted on 17 pages of the legendary magazine. The model is now an honorary participant of fashion shows around the world.

Jacqueline Murdock dreamed about modelling for her entire life, but this dream was meant to come true only when she turned 82. The woman is actually a professional dancer, who worked at the “Apollo” theater. She was noticed by photographer Ari Cohen, who was looking for some fresh faces for the “Lanvin” campaign. It was Jacqueline’s lucky ticket!

Cindy Joseph, 62

Cindy was 49 years old when she was noticed by the “Ford Models” scout and offered to take part in “Dolce & Gabbana” advertising campaign. Though the woman had never dreamed of becoming a model and worked as a make-up artist for 25 years, she decided to try. And not in vain! Now she continues working in both cosmetics and modelling business, successfully combining her skills and knowledge for advertising her own anti-ageing cosmetics line.

Jacky O’Shaughnessy, 61

Jacky O’Shaughnessy went to the casting only once: when she was 13 and the girl was advised to change her nose-shape and to lose around 20 pounds. That was the time Jacky realized she doesn’t want to be a model. And so it remained until she met Marcia Brady- the head of “American Apparel” brand, who was fascinated with Jacky’s style. Marcia offered the woman to take part in the advertising campaign of her brand and so Jacky eventually became a model.

Her career started in the late 70s, and 1981 was its breakthrough. That year Christie Brinkley appeared on the cover of “Sports Illustrated” three times. She had the longest “model-cosmetics line” contract ever recorded-it lasted for 25 years. In 2012 she appeared on the list of the world’s 20 richest models ranked the third.

The supermodel and David Bowie’s wife, Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid started modelling in her university years. While being a student of the Nairobi University, she was noticed by Peter Beard, who advised her to move to New York. She followed the advice and started her career from posing for “Vogue” in 1976. She has worked with some legendary photographers like Richard Avedon and Annie Leibovitz.

Elle Macpherson, 49

Elle Macpherson is a successful model, TV-show host and business woman. Her career started in 1982, when she went to the US to do 1-year modelling just to save up money for studying law at Sydney University. But everything happened not exactly like Elle planned-she became a supermodel. Macpherson appeared on the cover of “Sports Illustrated” for 5 times, which is a record.

Brooke Shields is known as an actress and model and both of her occupations she got as a child. Brooke gained the incredible fame after starring in “Pretty Baby,” 1978 and then continued modelling in her teenage years. She turned her sweet sixteen already being one of the most recognizable Hollywood faces.

Linda Evangelista started working as a model at a very early age. She was discovered in 1978 by “Elite Model Management” and the same year Linda signed a contract and moved to New York to develop her career. The Canadian model is famous for her long cooperation with the photographer Steven Meisel. Evangelista appeared on more than 600 magazine covers.

Cindy Crawford, one of the most beautiful and recognizable models of all times, started modelling in the late 80s. Before she gave herself to the fashion business, Cindy was an exemplary student, who got the scholarship to study chemistry at the Northwestern University in Chicago. But Cindy decided to drop out in order to become a professional model. She hardly ever regretted this, don’t you think?

Naomi Campbell was probably one of the most recognizable figures of fashion during the 1990s. She started modelling at the age of 15, and just a week before her 16th birthday, British “Elle” magazine published the issue with Naomi on the cover. She was the first black model to appear on the cover of French “Vogue.” She is now a model, a modelling mentor and the fragrance-line owner.

She became something of the legend in the modelling business, when in the 1990s everyone knew her name. She was discovered at the age of 17 and soon after completing her secondary education started working as a model. Her debut was the cover of French “Elle” magazine. Since then, she appeared on the covers of around 1,000 magazines.
