The actor made a full recovery and has starred in 29 movies since then.

Though breast cancer is believed to be the disease most common among women in their 50s, Christina Applegate was diagnosed with it at the age of 36 in 2008 due to the Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The disease was caused by the BRCA1 gene mutation, the trait she inherited from her mother-also cancer-survivor. Christina founded the organization “Right Action for Women,” where women can get the MRI-scanning and support.

Lance Armstrong was on the top of his sport career, when he had testicular cancer detected in 1996. Famous cyclist had an aggressive cancer stage: metastases spread to the abdomen, lungs and brain. Armstrong had to undergo four courses of chemotherapy in a period of just three months.  He defeated cancer in 1997 and founded “Livestrong” organization, which is focused on helping people with cancer.

Popular American actress Cynthia Nixon was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006, but didn’t announce that to publicity until 2008. Her mother was also a cancer-survivor. Now Nixon is a breast-cancer activist and the ambassador of the “Cure” foundation established by Susan G. Komen. It focuses on finding the cure for cancer.

Rod Stewart, one of the greatest singers of all time, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2000. He had to undergo an operation, which could have ruined his singing career. But Rod didn’t give up and re-learned singing afterwards. He also joined “The City of Hope” Foundation and took an active part in raising funds for it.
